Professional Development via edX

No programming experience necessary!

What:   PD for Scratch Encore, an intermediate programming-based computational thinking curriculum designed for                 4th-7th grade learners designed to be ethnically and socioeconomically inclusive. The curriculum instructional               materials are designed for instructors with varying experience levels.

When:  Released on edX on June 1, 2023!

 

Who:    Teachers interested in the Scratch Encore curriculum

 

Where/When: 

  • Estimated time commitment: 6 weeks with 2-4 hours of work per week

  • Independent learning via edX

  • ​Self-paced: progress at your own speed

  • Office hours by Scratch Encore team members offered 1 hr/week, 6/14 - 8/2

You can choose to audit the course (free, no edX certificate) or pay to receive a verified certificate upon completion of the course ($50 fee, edX verified certificate). You can register for the course at this URL:

What is special about Scratch Encore?

  • All materials are free of charge.

  • The curriculum provides a variety of activities that teachers can choose from based on topics that are engaging for their students.

  • We provide complete lesson plans, including discussion prompts, reflections, extension ideas, and assessments.

  • It is designed with research-based pedagogical approaches, including the Use->Modify->Create learning sequence for each content area and TIPP&SEE, a brand-new learning strategy developed by our lab to help students navigate the Scratch interface efficiently.
